    Digital Libraries Across Continents

Edited by Le Yang and Alicia Salaz

We invite chapter proposals for the upcoming book Digital Libraries Across Continents that will be published by Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group. This book provides an in-depth analysis of digital libraries across the world, exploring the unique approaches, challenges, and opportunities they encounter. We seek contributions that shed light on policy environments, system infrastructure, service models, and content and preservation practices within distinct cultural and socioeconomic contexts.

Possible topics for exploration include, but are not limited to:

      • The impact of metadata interoperability issues in multilingual environments.
      • Comparative analysis of centralized public funding models versus bottom-up, community-driven efforts.
      • How national approaches to higher education and research influence digital library development.
      • What kinds of digital infrastructure, systems, and platforms support digital libraries
      • The use of AI tools for enhancing digital library services.
      • Sociocultural factors influencing digital library service models and access.
      • Cross-border digital curation and cooperation in preserving cultural heritage.
      • Digital repatriation and its implications on content preservation.

We welcome submissions from a balanced range of countries in the global north and south, offering diverse perspectives on digital systems, workflows, policies, content, metadata, service models, and more.

    AUDIENCE

This book targets library science scholars, administrators, information scientists, digital library practitioners, developers, government agencies, NGOs, and policymakers interested in gaining a broader understanding of global digital librarianship.

    CONTACT

For any inquiries or clarifications, please contact the editors, Le Yang (yanglegd@gmail.com) and Alicia Salaz (asalaz@uoregon.edu). The editors welcome inquiries focused on brainstorming or talking through nascent ideas and will gladly schedule a virtual meeting on request to engage in deeper discussion. We look forward to receiving your insightful contributions to this groundbreaking exploration of global digital librarianship.

The Role of Generative AI in LIS Publishing: Opportunities and Challenges
Conversations around generative AI tools in higher education mostly focus on their role in students' academic work. However, such tools are also starting to play a role in the production of scholarly research. Join us for a panel discussion on this issue featuring editors from several top journals in the library and information science field. As we develop policies on the use of AI in manuscript submissions, we will reflect on both the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for scholarly research and publishing in our field.
This presentation will especially benefit anyone who produces scholarship for the LIS field but anyone with an interest in generative AI and/or scholarly research is welcome.
