Please join us live at 3PM EST on January 20, 2022 for the TLGS (Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students) Webinar Series.
Topic: "Fake Journals and Conferences: What to Know about the Faux"
This train-the-trainers presentation models a workshop for graduate students about deceptive (often called "predatory") journals and conferences. In addition to explaining the what, why, and how of these deceptive venues, the workshop offers guidance about evaluating journals/conferences and encourages students to think critically about the term "predatory." All workshop materials (slideshow and handouts) will be shared with attendees, who are welcome to re-use and remix the materials for their campus communities.
Presented by Jill Cirasella, Associate Librarian for Scholarly Communication at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Jill's research focus is scholarly communication, very broadly construed: recent and current projects look at anxieties surrounding open access, attitudes about practice-based library literature, and the lived experiences of hard of hearing librarians. She is committed to advancing ethical, community-led open access initiatives and is wrapping up three years as Chair of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication.
