Description: Grounded in the theoretical framings of Critical Race Theory and reparative justice, participants will review various components of recruitment strategies that focus on targeting BIPOC library professionals, and the implications of this type of outreach. Shawn will detail practical applications, while outlining challenges and implications for libraries to consider as we embark on this journey to diversifying our profession. Presentation topics will include institutional commitments to diversity, legal limitations, committee formation, position description language, anti-bias supportive software, diversity statements, info sessions, and the interview. A modified version of this talk was provided at the 2022 New York Library Association Luncheon lecture, and an extended version was offered to managers as a 3-hour pre-conference for the 2023 NJLA annual conference which allowed for reflective sharing and personal application.
Note: This session will not be recorded.
