Charge: To create a discussion forum to discuss, research, and envision the many pathways to satisfying and equitable library work. At the outset, the interest is multi-pronged: practices or programs for making the MLS/MLIS experience more accessible and authentic, particularly for underrepresented and marginalized populations; parallel pathways to (or alternative credentialing for) librarian positions; and increasing equity between library worker classifications (in terms of compensation, benefits, professional development funding, institutional and disciplinary power, & etc.).

At our introductory meeting, we discussed what we might want to include in community agreements and discussion norms. We anticipate that this will be a longer and ongoing discussion, but this thread can be used to post either specific community agreements you would like to include, or examples of other community agreements documents that we might be inspired by. If posting other institutions' or groups community agreements, please attribute accordingly.

A couple of community agreements that feel important to me are taken from the UWB/CC Community Reads team, a group I'm part of:

BE: Be present. Be open to new forms of knowledge.

SPEAK: Speak from your own experiences.  Don't speak for others even if you share the same identity.

These feel important in a group like this as we recognize that we all have a different "story" (as per our first meeting), that we are all coming to and through library work from very different perspectives and pathways. I want to make sure that I remain open to the experiences of others, listen to and understand the life experience that drive perspectives that might be different from my own, and clarify that my own opinions and communications come from my particular path/story, as well.
