CFP for chapter ideas: Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences Librarianship: Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities [draft title]

The launch of ChatGPT-3 in late 2022 unleashed a transformative wave of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies that have revolutionized the way we create, acquire, manage, analyze, and disseminate information.

We are working on a book proposal for the MLA Books Panel for Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences Librarianship: Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities. This book project seeks to provide an essential roadmap to this new world that explores the profound impact of AI on health sciences librarianship.

The editors hope to bring together a collection of insightful chapters addressing key topics and questions that are central to understanding how emerging AI technologies like machine learning and natural language processing may enhance, disrupt, or even supplant current practices. Key areas may include:

The disruption of traditional library functions such as reference, collection development, and information literacy instruction

    • The opportunity to leverage AI to enhance critical research support services such as systematic reviews, data visualization, and scholarly communications.

    • The ethical dimensions of AI and how they relate to the creation, acquisition, and dissemination of information.

    • The profound role that AI plays in exploring potential biases and opportunities for positive transformative change associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences Librarianship: Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities will be geared toward health sciences librarians, information professionals, educators, and researchers and will provide the knowledge and practical strategies required to navigate the complexities of AI in a responsible and impactful manner.

With all this in mind, we hope you’ll let us know if you are interested in contributing a chapter to this book project and, if so, on what topic. We can build you into the book proposal! If you’re interested but not sure what topic / direction you might like to go, let’s talk! (Editors' info and emails below.)

Looking forward to hearing from you!
