Dear ACRL Chapter Leaders,
I am reaching out with an update from the ACRL Board of Directors and ACRL Budget & Finance Committee meetings which took place August 1 and August 3, respectively. After reviewing the original proposal to reduce funding to $100 for all chapters and after holding thoughtful discussions on the original proposal, the ACRL Board will be recommending a new motion, which would be to discontinue annual Chapter Funding. The Budget & Finance Committee and Board will take action on the new motion in summer 2022. The Board and B&F Committee have been challenged to reduce expenditures per ALA guidelines to reach a net zero or net positive budget in FY23. The decision to eliminate Chapter funding was made while weighing competing requests for funding and while taking into consideration what expenses best support ACRL's strategic plan.
During the meetings, the Board and Committee expressed concern about the considerable amount of staff time that is required to process funding requests from chapters. If the action is approved by the Committee and Board, ACRL Chapters would no longer receive annual funding, but Chapters would maintain their ACRL Chapter status free of charge, have access to ACRL's Chapter Speakers Bureau, and remain entitled to receive one free membership list and two free ACRL Presents Webcasts per year.
We will update everyone after the meeting.
Best,
Lauren
