All of Us Researcher Workbench webinar for academic libraries
Hosted by All of Us Data and Research Center
    Thursday, February 16, 2023
    3:00-4:00 pm Eastern Time
The webinar will offer 1 Continuing Education Credit from the Medical Library Association and is approved for the Data Services Specialization

The All of Us Research Program is a key component of the Precision Medicine Initiative, which aspires to leverage advances in genomics and health information technology to accelerate biomedical discoveries.

We invite you to a webinar presentation to learn more about the All of Us Researcher Workbench, a cloud-based research platform that the All of Us Research Program has created, where individuals can apply for access to the data, and once approved as Authorized Data Users, create project-specific Workspaces in which to access and analyze the data.

The webinar will cover the basics of the All of Us Research Program, the data available, how you can expand access to your campus community, and the available training resources. You can search for your institution online to find out if you already have institutional access and use the All of Us Research Program dataset through the All of Us Researcher Workbench. If you do not have access at your institution, this webinar will instruct how your institution can get free access to the Workbench and provide resources to help you get access.

This event occurs during International Love Data Week which celebrates data and raises global awareness about the importance of data science and management! For those unable to attend, there will be a recording. American Sign Language interpretation and Closed Captioning will be provided during the webinar and in the recording.

The All of Us Research Programis a national longitudinal research initiative that aims to engage one million or more participants living in the United States. Participants contribute health data and specimens (blood, urine, saliva) to a repository that includes health, behavioral, genomic, and other data.  This work is led and funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to build one of the largest biomedical and public health data resources of its kind.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Office of Engagement and Training (OET) has partnered with the All of Us Research Program to increase awareness and engagement with the All of Us Researcher Workbench amongst academic librarians and their campuses. Through this partnership, NLM will provide training opportunities, data engagement activities, and funding opportunities to increase access to the All of Us Researcher Workbench through academic libraries.

Why your library should be interested in facilitating campus access to the All of Us Researcher Workbench:

    • Data-driven research continues to be a priority for academic institutions as it contributes to providing information about diseases, risk factors, and public health, and can increase academic publication rates and grant awards.
    • The library is well-situated to utilize training materials to assist your campus community in using the R and Python programming languages that are prominent in data science and needed to use the All of Us Researcher Workbench
    • The All of Us Research Program dataset offer access to a diverse, longitudinal dataset that can be used by student and faculty who do not have access to other datasets. The NIH has worked with research communities and community members to ensure a robust research protocol that respects participants and the needs of the research community.

This webinar will be hosted by All of Us Data and Research Center and presented by Ashley Green, MLIS, the lead Outreach Coordinator and a senior research analyst.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss potential library roles using the All of Us Researcher Workbench, please contact us at: NLMAllofUs@orau.org.
