The Journal of Graduate Librarianship (JGL) is adding book reviews...with a twist! Rather than traditional book reviews, we seek evaluative recommendations (500–700 words) of books likely to interest the graduate librarian community. For the most part, we favor recommendations of books published in the last 5–10 years. If a book is older but remains valuable, please be sure to explain its continued timeliness or relevance. Book reviews are not peer reviewed but are reviewed by JGL editors.

Reviewed books may be about any aspect of librarianship, but they must have a direct link to the work of graduate librarians. A book may contain a theoretical perspective or practical application that's not explicitly stated as being "for" graduate librarians; however, in every case, the reviewer must clearly state how the book can assist graduate librarians in performing their work.

As JGL is a forum for practitioner sharing and professional development, we are extremely interested in hearing about books that you generally recommend and consider valuable. If something has influenced your thinking, teaching, or workflow, let the rest of our community know in your own words how this resource might benefit them.

For an example, see JGL's review of Academic Coaching: Coaching College Students for Success, written by Book Reviews Editor Corinne Bishop.

Requirements: In addition to following JGL's general submission guidelines, please adhere to these guidelines:

    • Include APA citation for the book and its ISBN
    • Review length: 500–700 words
    • Review Content: Describe what the book is about and why it is useful for graduate librarians. Who is the author, and what is their expertise or skills? What facts, reasons, or intriguing information supports reading this book? (If you use quotations from the book, include page numbers.) What is unique about the book? Why do you recommend it?

Submission Instructions: To submit a book review for JGL's 2026 issue, send it as a Microsoft Word file to Book Reviews Editor Corinne Bishop at Corinne.Bishop@ucf.edu by June 1, 2026.
