    Posted 3 hours ago

    The ACRL African American Studies Librarian Interest Group (AASLIG) is looking for an Incoming Convener to serve a one-year term starting July 2026. As convener you will:

    • post professional development opportunities;
    • appoint a liaison to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH);
    • keep abreast of what is going on with the African American SACO Funnel;
    • if possible, convene virtual programs;
    • arrange a meeting at ALA in June (either in person or virtual). We have had presentations in the past and we usually had a report from the African American Funnel Chair;
    • keep in touch with the ACRL Liaison and reply to their emails; and
    • maintain the AASLIG LibGuide.

    This is a great opportunity for anyone who has an interest in African American Studies librarianship, culture, and history and is looking for a service opportunity that allows for collaborative leadership with a light workload. ALA and ACRL membership is required. Please contact Deseree Stukes (dstukes@email.unc.edu) by April 24th, 2026, to express your interest in the position.

    We especially encourage library professionals or students who are unable to meet in person to apply. Travel to ALA and ACRL conferences is not required, as meetings and programs may be conducted virtually. For more information on the AASLIG, visit our LibGuide. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
