Dear Virtual World IG leaders/members,
There is a virtual reality project led by the San Jose State University's iSchool that ALA has been approached about collaborating with. I've included a brief description/link below. ALA is hoping to gather some informal (and confidential) feedback on the below space.
Please see the following questions and send your feedback to me, Lauren Carlton lcarlton@ala.org by Monday, October 23.
Questions:
• Is this a space you could see yourself using?
• Would you have interest in connecting with the iSchool students who are working on development and/or participating in virtual events in the space as representatives of ACRL's interest group/ALA and/or in support of Unite Against Book Bans?
• Does it seem worthwhile to promote this effort as a Unite Against Book Bans partnership? i.e., do you see potential for engaging users in the fight against book bans through this space?
• Any other general feedback is also welcome!
A team at the SJSU iSchool consisting of staff and graduate student volunteers created a Unite Against Book Bans Metaverse, which is accessible here: https://tinyurl.com/uabbmetaverse. They created this space to promote engagement with the fight against book banning by offering VR programs, events, and another avenue for accessing Unite's range of advocacy tools.
The iSchool has committed funds to development of this metaverse and has grad students standing ready to continue developing it. They view this effort as part of the iSchool's commitment to intellectual freedom and an opportunity for their MLIS students to learn hands-on.
