    Hello Colleagues,

As the AASLIG Convener for this year, I would like to thank you for your membership and ask for your assistance with making our Interest Group more active and meaningful to African American Studies Librarianship.

We sponsor an African American Subject Funnel Group which addresses the relevance of LC Subject Headings to the African American experience. They have been successful in changing subject headings and meet monthly.  It is comprised of catalogers and subject specialists and is always open to new members.

We hold an ACRL Liaison appointment to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, the organization founded by Carter G. Woodson, which creates the African American History Month theme each year.  It will be meeting in Jacksonville in September. ACRL will fully fund the conference attendance via a grant. Although it is too late for funding this year, please let me know if you are interested in becoming AASLIG's representative for 2024. ACRL Liaisons Program

We have an AASLIG/ACRL Libguide for the group. I would welcome assistance with keeping it updated.  We also have a Facebook page.

I would like to have members present webinars on different topics related to African American studies resources, projects, and programs, including archival subjects. If you are interested, please let me know and we will set up a schedule.

I intend to resume having an annual meeting at the ALA Conference in June and will try to revive the Research Forum with presenters. Please consider participating and making our group more helpful to its members.

    Thanks,
