Dear Colleagues,
I'm excited to invite you to the upcoming ACRL Leadership Discussion Group's Spring meeting. Join us for an insightful presentation by Rachel Gammons, Head of Teaching and Learning Services at the University of Maryland Libraries. This event is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 2 pm.
Presentation Title: "Librarian and Manager: Both, and Yet Neither" Topic: Exploring the unique challenges faced by women-identifying middle manager teaching librarians in ARL libraries.
Rachel Gammons, also a Ph.D. candidate in Higher Education at the University of Maryland College of Education, will delve into the findings of her qualitative case study. This study focuses on the experiences of nine middle manager teaching librarians, highlighting the concept of "middle-ness" and the liminal space they occupy within organizational hierarchies. The discussion will explore themes of identity and role negotiation, offering insights into the complex dynamics of being both a librarian and a manager.
This session promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of academic library leadership, encouraging participants to reflect on their own experiences and consider new ways to support and empower middle manager librarians.
