  • 1.  Accessibility of Graphic Novels?

    Posted Feb 18, 2025 03:21 PM

    Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone has experience or resources to share regarding accessibility of graphic novels. I have a few faculty members teaching courses that extensively utilize graphic novels and they are interested in providing a more accessible experience.

I have found this article about "Creating an Authentic Experience: A Study in Comic Books, Accessibility, and the Visually Impaired Reader" as well as the Accessible Comics for the Blind project, but I would appreciate if anyone could provide information about how they have handled supporting graphic novel accessibility within the context of an academic library, especially one on the smaller side.

Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide!

    Hi Christina,

This is a great question! I found some useful information from the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled:

Your state's network library may have other resources.

Thanks for sharing the resources you already found! The resources list from the Accessible Comics for the Blind project seems especially helpful!

    Best,

    Michelle
