    Reserves Supervisor
    Grade SM-1

    Job Summary:

    Amherst College invites applications for the Reserves Supervisor position. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community. The Reserves Supervisor is responsible for course reserve services in print and electronic formats across all disciplines. As a working supervisor, processes course reserves in electronic and print format each semester. Collaborates with Interlibrary Loan staff who supervise scanning by student assistants. Participates fully as a member of the Access Services department and serves regularly scheduled hours at the front desk. Supervises1 full-time employee.  Maintains a Tuesday-Saturday 9:30am-5:30pm work schedule.

    Summary of Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    ·         Reserves Service - Solicit syllabi, create print and electronic reserve records, and coordinate digitization and book processing

    ·         Management – Supervise 1 staff person, oversee reserve work of branch library staff, develop policy and procedure documentation, support academic library coordinators with copyright compliance

    ·         Scheduled Hours at the Frost Front Desk – Assist library users, provide backup to student assistants

     

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Associate's degree, or 3-5 years of experience in lieu of degree

    • Experience in an academic or research library setting.

    • Experience searching online bibliographic databases

    • Demonstrated exceptional customer service, including creative problem-solving and a commitment to equitable access

    • Demonstrated close attention to detail

    • Proficiency with MS Office and/or Google Suite and ability to learn new technologies and incorporate them into existing operations

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to work closely and problem-solve with colleagues from all library departments and with students, faculty, and staff.

    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.

    • Demonstrated commitment to effectively supporting a broadly diverse and intentionally inclusive community

     

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor's degree

    • Experience using Zotero or other bibliographic management software

    • Work experience in an academic or research library.

    • Supervisory experience

The Access Services Supervisor is responsible for user services and desk operations at the Robert Frost Library, Keefe Science Library and Morgan Music Library, ensuring excellent customer service to a diverse set of users. Supervises 3-4 full- and part-time employees. Coordinates the work of Access Services Student Assistants in Frost Library. Participates in the development and implementation of department policies, procedures and services. Maintains a Sunday-Thursday 8am-5pm work schedule.

    Summary of Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    ·         Student Assistants- Hire and train, develop work schedules, document policies and procedures

    ·         Management – Supervise 3-4 staff, manage front desk operations, develop policy and procedure documentation

    ·         Scheduled Hours at the Frost Front Desk – Assist library users, provide backup to student assistants


    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Associate's degree or 5-7 years of experience in lieu of degree

    • 3-5 years of experience working in Access Services

    • 1 year of supervision of library employees

    • Demonstrated exceptional customer service, including creative problem-solving and a commitment to equitable access

    • Demonstrated close attention to detail

    • Proficiency with MS Office and/or Google Suite and ability to learn new technologies and incorporate them into existing operations

    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills

    • Demonstrated commitment to effectively supporting a broadly diverse and intentionally inclusive community
