Discussion topics:
- What is a dance librarian?
Develop a fact sheet to recruit new professionals. In addition to students in academic dance programs, we could work on targeting dance schools, as well as dance companies with career transition programs.
- As evidenced by the success of television shows such as Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance and the reception of recent film and documentary releases (restored Red Shoes, Frederick Wiseman’s La Danse and PBS broadcast of New York Export: Opus Jazz are prime examples), it is undeniable that dance is growing more popular than ever.
Are we seeing a corresponding demand from our users (or strains on our materials budgets)? How do we respond more proactively? How can we leverage this popularity? How can we be more creative with our programming and outreach efforts? See recent New York Times article on the impact that DWTS and SYTYCD are having on the development of training and repertory as a possible jumping off point for our discussion.
- Outlets for reviews of new books and media
Are we well-represented in Choice and other existing publications? Do we need new venues?
- Identifying other groups in ALA, etc. with whom to collaborate on a conference program or other project
All are welcome to attend this informal discussion. Please feel free to post items to add to this agenda.
