  • 1.  Discussion format?

This thread is for discussing formats for discussion. If you have a strong preference for a particular mode, here is the place to say so.

The options are pretty endless. We could do Google Hangouts, in Person discussions at both Annual and Midwinter, virtual meetings for Midwinter with in-person at Annual, try to hold virtual discussions a few times throughout the year...or anything else we can imagine

    Hello,

I find virtual discussions effective.   I would also be interested to try Google Hangouts as I haven't had the opportunity.   It might also be fun to have an informal meetup at one or both of the ALAs.

Let's aim for a face-to-face informal meeting once a year at Annual.  In that the group is a start-up, this Midwinter, too?  Thanks, Rudy, and all!

    I agree on virtual, etc.

If we want to meet virtually I will gladly offer my Wimba classroom for a virtual, synchronous meeting. ACRL also has web conferencing we may be able to use-is it GotoMeeting for such purposes that they make available?

I'm in favor of trying out virtual options.  I also have not had the opportunity to try Google Hangouts, but it might be interesting to learn.  Wimba would also be a good idea--it is a proven technology that will work.

I think the e-mail discussion list will probably be the most unifying communication tool we can have.  I still really like discussion lists (-:

While I have not been going to annual and midwinter lately, I can see that an in-person meeting would be a good idea--and it would be great if the in-person meetings could also include a virtual component.

Thanks for getting this started, Rudi!

Mary, due to timing, we aren't on the Midwinter schedule, but I was thinking it might be really nice to meet virtually before Summer. I like the idea of an Annual face-to-face, and perhaps 2 virtual meetings or programs during the year, supplemented by an active discussion? But that's really up to all of us

Barb, thanks for the kind offer. There is some possibility I'll take you up on it. I'm trying to do a virtual discussion this Midwinter on ACRL's iLinc, but I' not sure how that will work.

    Hi Alesia,

I've been wanting to try Google Hangouts too. I'm not sure they would work for a discussion group meeting though -- there's a 10 person cap in each hangout. But let me know if you ever want to set one up and play with how it works!

Thanks Rudy. I will.   Maybe we could try it as a book discussion though I would have to find time to read a book!

I agree an in person gathering at Annual would be a great place to start. If we can preced that with a virtual meeting (or two) that would be wonderful as well, and may make a discussion at Annual more effective.

I don't know about Google Hangouts but now will look into it. Sounds intriguing!
