Support from IFLA members to change the LGBTQ+ Special Interest Group into an official Section of IFLA

  • 1.  Support from IFLA members to change the LGBTQ+ Special Interest Group into an official Section of IFLA

The members of the LGBTQ Special Interest Group need letters of support to change our group into an official Section of IFLA. This special interest group was formed at the IFLA World Library Congress in Singapore in 2013. Now after ten years we are hoping to transform the group into the LGBTQ+ Matters Section of IFLA.

This change will mean going from a group of 9 members to have 22 members, more support from IFLA in the structure and programs, and more official members to help with the various advocacy issues related to supporting libraries with issues related to this community.

We need the official from the library associations, libraries, etc. who are the person representing their organization to agree to sponsor this petition, along with next year supporting the group by paying the 80 euros per section that IFLA requires (if you have more than 2 sections you wish to support, if not, if this would be one of your 2 sections, there is no extra charge.)

A link is found here for the form: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1euYmabYRC4vgWC8zyluSSotY8kko05qc/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=115268710866813160495&rtpof=true&sd=true

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

Joseph Hafner, Secretary, IFLA LGBTQ Special Interest Group

Dean of Libraries, York University, Toronto, Canada
