The mission of the International Relations Round Table is to promote interest in library issues and librarianship worldwide; to help coordinate international activities within ALA, serving as a liaison between the International Relations Committee and those members of the Association interested in international relations; to develop programs and activities which further the international objectives of ALA; and to provide hospitality and information to visitors from abroad.

    2023 Mortenson Center Associates Program

    Shaping the Future of Libraries: A Professional Development Program for Library Leaders and Innovators

    The Mortenson Center for International Library Programs Associates Program is excited to offer its 2023 Associates Program with the theme: "Shaping the Future of Libraries" on 24 May - 20 June 2023 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The 2023 program will offer library leaders, innovators, and professionals working outside the United States an opportunity to explore current issues and trends in the library field and to engage with librarians implementing cutting-edge programs and services.

     

    Program participants will learn about novel and inventive practices and services in areas such as:

    Emerging Trends and Library Features

    Innovation by Design

    Leadership, Communication and Managing Change

    Emerging Technologies and AI

    Digital and Print Collections and Repositories

    Sustainable Development

    International Professional Networking

     

    2023 Program Highlights:

     

    ·    Seminars and Workshops which provide an overview of current trends in the field. Library experts will be invited to share their perspectives, offer expertise, and foster conversations on the themes of communication and leadership.

    ·    Tours of a variety of libraries, including academic, public, and school libraries. We may also visit the American Library Association headquarters in Chicago, Illinois and other sites of interest.

    ·    Networking with a dynamic group of international colleagues during and post-program.

    ·    Participants will develop individual action plans appropriate to their professional and institutional needs and will receive post-program implementation review.

    ·    Each participant will receive a Certificate of Program Participation upon completion.

    ·    Scheduling to allow participants to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Library Association (ALA), if they wish. The 2023 Annual Meeting will be held in Chicago, Illinois, June 22-27. Arrangements and registration for the conference must be made separately and are not included in program costs.

     

    Applications for the Associates Program are due 15 December 2022.
