    ABSTRACT
    What do library and information professionals need to know to contribute to an effective library and information science (LIS) organizations? The workshop will introduce the foundational knowledge areas (FKAs), which were developed for the IFLA Guidelines for Professional Library and Information Science (LIS) Education Programmes (2022, https://bslise.org/lis-education-guidelines/), and serve to benchmark the competencies that library and information professionals should know and develop in order to ensure that within their area of responsibility, they effectively manage or work toward providing effectively library and information services. Whether you work or lead a library, archive, museum or other information organization, at this workshop, you will learn how to assess your FKAs in LIS organizations and develop a plan for your future professional development
    The workshop is presented by the Department of Library and Information Studies, The University of the West Indies Mona Campus, and co-sponsored by Building Strong Library and Information Science (BSLISE), an IFLA working group, and the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
