    Dear colleagues,

The International Relations Committee (IRC) Africa sub-committee is pleased to bring you a session at ALA 2024:

Building Partnerships with Communities in Africa: Sister Cities International 500 in 5 years

Sister City International's 500 in 5 initiative has an ambitious goal: connect 500 cities in Africa with other cities in the United States in the next 5 years.  We will talk about the initiative, existing Sister City partnerships and how they support information literacy and availability, best practices in forming partnerships, and how librarians and libraries can be involved.

    Sunday June 30, 1-2 p.m Convention Center Room 08
Ricki Garrett, Interim President & CEO, Sister Cities International
Janet Lee, librarian, representing Sister Cities Denver, Colorado, and Axum, Ethiopia
Diane Withers, educator, representing Sister Cities La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Kumbo, Cameroon
Moderated by Justine Withers, Electronic Resources Librarian, Western New Mexico University

If you are not able to make this session, come find us at:

    • IRC/IRRT All Subcommittee Meeting Saturday June 8:30-10 a.m. Marriott Marquis, Pacific Ballroom Section 18
    • International Librarians Reception Meet with Ricki, Janet, and Diane, Monday 5-7 p.m. off site – tickets on sale

And if you are not going to be at ALA, we are happy to talk to you another time about how you can get involved with Sister Cities, ALA's Sister Libraries, other connections to libraries and information centers in Africa, and the Africa sub-committee. Email Janet Lee (janet.lee35@gmail.com) and Justine Withers (justine.withers@wnmu.edu).

Thank you, Mark Mattson, for highlighting all the IRRT programs in your post the other week.

    Yours,

    Justine
