  • 1.  Upcoming Webinar: Fundamentals of International Law – Overview of Treaties

    Posted May 04, 2020 02:59 PM

    Dear IRRT Colleagues:

I thought this group might be interested in the upcoming free webinar from PPIRS. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,

    Nadine

    On March 10
th, James Church and Kenya Flash kicked off a series of International Relations themed webinars for the PPIRS (Politics, Policy & International Relations Section of ACRL) community with "International Relations and International Organizations: A Framework." The recorded webinar is available:

    - Recording (including transcripts, chat)

    - Slides

The next in the series, "Fundamentals of International Law – Overview of Treaties," will be led by Nadine Hoffman and Olivia Ivey. This 60-minute webinar will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, May 19 at 1:00 PDT/2:00 MDT/3:00 CDT/4:00 EDT at https://umn.zoom.us/j/96676152696 (Meeting ID: 966 7615 2696).

International Law is a large and complex area of research. This webinar will take on a few fundamentals with a focus on finding treaties starting with providing attendees with a strong foundation for the lingo related to international law. Using climate change agreements as an example, the presenters will guide participants through finding treaties and their associated ratification documents for participating countries and international organizations. Key resources for finding related documents and why researchers may need them will also be covered. Mindful of the tight budgets faced by many, a discussion of cost-effective options will be woven throughout.

All PPIRS members and guests are welcome! The professional development committee will continue to develop this webinar series with feedback from our members.
