Some highlights from September Virtual Council meeting that took place on 9/18/20:

    - Agenda: Financial Update; Executive Director Update; Next steps

    - Next Virtual Council Meeting will focus on Forward Together update on 11/5.

    - Financials:  Council received a BARC (Peter Hepburn) and Treasurer's Report (Maggie Farrell).  ALA ended the fiscal year with a $11.1 million deficit compared to the $4 million deficit that had been projected. This is largely due to pandemic-related issues, such as the cancellation of the in person ALA Annual conference, lower revenue from membership and publishing, and other costs.  ALA has put together a strategy for covering projected deficits. Note that next fiscal year will be very lean and they projected very conservative/tight budgets given all of the uncertainties.  Council voted on CD 13.5 to approve the FY21 annual estimates of income $71,035,580.  The motion passed: 132 yes, 10 no, 6 abstain.

    - Executive Director Update: Tracie Hall presented a very interesting 5 year plan - Pivot Strategy (CD 50).  She discussed how she would be focusing on increasing revenue streams for continuing education; membership; conference services; publishing; contributed revenue; and data, research and design. I highly recommend that you take a look at this plan. It is ambitious and inspiring.  I attached the plan to this post.

See below for the recording  and transcript from the meeting.
