Dear Councilors,

ALA is announcing the call for self-nominations for the ALA Executive Board 2024 Election.  ALA Council's Committee on Committees (COC), chaired by President-elect Hohl, will soon begin its task of determining two (2) Council nominees to run for each of the following three (3) positions on the ALA Executive Board, per ALA Bylaws (Article V, Section 1):

Six (6) Councilor Candidates total to run for 2024-2027 ALA Executive Board Term:

·        2 At-large ALA Members

·        2 Rainbow Round Table Members

·        2 Division Members

As a reference, below is the list of the current 2023-2024 board members. The members highlighted are the outgoing board members; therefore for this year's election we are looking to fill an At-Large, RRT, and Division member.

The purpose of this post is to encourage any Councilor who wishes to be considered for candidacy to indicate your interest.

Please see attached approved Council Document #36 outlining the Executive Board election rules and Executive Board position description. 

Final candidates will be selected by the Committee on Committees (COC). The final slate will be posted as a Council document at the Library Learning Experience (LibLearnX) in January 2024 and reported by the President-elect, chair of COC. If not selected by the COC, candidates may be nominated from the Council floor during LibLearnX. 

This election will take place electronically in February 2023, and candidates will also participate in the ALA Executive Board Candidates Forum in February 2023 – final dates TBD. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for each position will be elected to a 3-year term (2024-2027). Newly elected Executive Board members will begin their term at the conclusion of the 2024 Annual Conference in San Diego, CA.

Eligibility per ALA Bylaws, Article V, Section 1:

All Executive Board members must be active members of the American Library Association. Executive Board members elected by Council must be current Councilors and, as appropriate, current members of the division, round table, chapter, or association from which they are elected or appointed.

Save the Date: The ALA Executive Board Candidates Virtual Forum will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 2:00-3:00  pm CT.  The Forum will be recorded.  The ALA Executive Board Election will open immediately following the Forum and close on Monday, February 6, 2024 at 9 am CT.  You can register here for the forum.
