    POSITION DESCRIPTION:


    The University of Georgia Libraries seeks a collaborative, energetic, and creative individual with a demonstrated commitment to advancing undergraduate learning and research within a library context for the position of Director of the Zell B. Miller Learning Center Library Commons (MLC). Reporting to the University Librarian/Associate Provost, the Director provides strategic direction and leadership for the Library Commons by administering facilities operations, coordinating services provided in the building, planning programs and activities, and managing MLC’s support staff and student assistants. The position engages with faculty and other colleagues to promote, assess and improve the Library Commons, serves as a liaison librarian to a specific department, and participates in library-wide and campus-wide meetings and committees.


     


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



    • ALA-accredited MLIS

    • Minimum of five years of experience in an academic library including management, research and instruction, student learning assessment, and outreach and marketing focused on library resources and services

    • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor others

    • Knowledge of issues associated with the library commons

    • Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in academic or research librarianship

    • Demonstrated knowledge of key instructional technologies used in an information commons (e.g., web-based resource creations, digital reference tools, curriculum and knowledge of instruction theories)

    • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and/or projects involving multiple stakeholders

    • Ability to initiate and maintain productive, long-term, effective working relationships with colleagues, the teaching faculty, staff and students

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound, independent judgment; Excellent problem-solving skills.


     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 



    •  Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals.
