  • 1.  Looking for Councilors willing to speak at the March 2 TAG meeting

    Hello Councilors,
We are still looking for Councilors willing to speak either for or against Council becoming an advisory body at the March 2, 2022 TAG meeting for Councilors. The forum on March 2 at 3:00 p..m. CT is in preparation for the March 10 Council meeting where a vote will be taken on the motion from the Transforming ALA Governance Task Force. As indicated in an email last week, the hour will begin with 6 speakers. Three people speaking for Council becoming an advisory body and three people speaking in favor of retaining Council as a policy-making body. Each speaker will be given 3 minutes to advocate for their position. We will alternate between advisory and policy making. After the 6 Councilors present their rationale, we will open the floor for questions and other discussion.

Several people have expressed a willingness to speak. We would love to hear from a few others. Please let me know if you would like to speak on March 2 and which body you will be supporting. You may respond to this post or email me directly at amy.lappin@leblibrary.com.

Hi Amy, I'm sorry if I am being dense but I am very unclear on the purpose of the March 2nd meeting and the use of this format.  Is this meeting and format intended to replace debate by the full Council during the formal Council meeting on the 10th?  Or is it intended more as a structured Council Forum?  Can you please clarify if we will have a full Council debate on the TAG proposal when we meet on the 10th?

    Thank you,

    Eileen

    Hi Eileen,
The purpose is to give more structure to the discussion while perhaps having the added benefit of giving some practice to actual debate for the 10th. It is in no way designed to replace debate during the Council meeting.  I am always hopeful that what is expressed outside of Council will be expressed on the floor. The intention of the March 2 meeting is to assist Councilors who are looking for more information or thought about what it might mean to have an advisory body or to keep Council as a policy-making body.

    I hope this helps.

    Best,
    Amy
