last person joined: 5 months ago

This space is for all those interested in updates and discussion regarding Transforming ALA Governance. This space was originally created to share the work of the Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE) who was charged in June 2018 to carry out a comprehensive review and study of ALA’s governance, member participation and legal structures and systems, with the goal of proposing changes that will vitalize its success, strength and agility as a 21st century association. The results of this committee are the Forward Together recommendations.

I am assuming John is asking if he can sit in and observe the meeting. Diedre points out that ALA Council meetings are open--a very important commitment to "sunshine" in ALA's organizational design. By open, my understanding is that this is a special meeting of Council, for Councilors to participate in, a meeting which ALA members who are not on Council are welcome to observe. It has been a longstanding custom of Council to encourage observers. This is likely common knowledge for all Councilors, but since we are now two election cycles into all-virtual participation, I thought it worth bringing up.

As a member of Executive Board, I realized this weekend I should advise the units I liaise to of this opportunity to observe Council discussion of the TAG Q&A, so I shall do this forthwith.

It's my assumption there will be discussion sessions with other constituent groups downstream, but this Q&A for Council is very welcome and timely, given how the recommendations impact Council so directly.

I hate that this is directly opposite the IFRT meeting.
