  • 1.  Councilor Registration Information for the 2022 Annual Conference and Council Meetings

    Dear ALA Councilors,

I am pleased to share that nearly half of ALA Councilors have registered for the upcoming ALA Annual Conference, June 23-28 in Washington D.C. In addition to the opportunity to be together and network again, the conference is shaping up to offer a remarkable array of interactive educational and professional development sessions, inspiring speakers, and exhibitors, along with many opportunities to interact with much missed colleagues. For those who are unable to join us in person, we are excited to offer the Digital Experience which will mirror a selection of in person offerings and some exclusive experiences.

Thank you all for taking care to participate in virtual Council meetings during these unprecedented times when we were not able to meet in person. Now, as we prepare for ALA's first in-person Annual Conference and Council Meetings in over two years,  we will honor ALA Policy (A.7.4.5) regarding registration and ALA Conference meetings and Councilor expectations. Per that policy, all Councilors who plan to attend in person will need to register for Annual Conference, while Councilors who plan to participate virtually should register for the Digital Experience. As elected leaders, this is an important opportunity for us to connect and engage together again as a body, recognizing the nuanced conversations scheduled for these meetings around our governance structure and the association's future.

As a courtesy, Councilors not already registered may still register at the discounted Advance Registration rate using promo code ADV22 through May 5, 2022. Registration protocols and the extension of the Advance Registration rate also apply to members of committees planning to meet during Annual Conference (see the meeting scheduler for additional meeting information). As always, all Annual Conference attendees, in-person as well as Digital Experience registrants, are invited to observe the Council Meetings. If you have any questions, please contact the ALA Governance Office at governance@ala.org.

Thank you again for your committed leadership. Please know that your dedication bolsters the entire association.

    Sincerely,

    Patty Wong

Thank you President Wong. In case anyone, like me, needs to refresh your memory on A.7.4.5

A.7.4.5 Registration at Conferences and Midwinter Meetings (Old Number 7.4.5)

ALA members may attend general membership and council meetings, whenever and wherever held, by showing either a conference badge for the day of the meeting or a current membership card. Registration badges shall be shown for admission to all other meetings.

Registration at Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings is required of all those attending all other meetings of the Association, its units, committees, etc., except as specifically waived by action of the Executive Board.
