    Colleagues!

The Emerging Technologies Section (ETS) of RUSA  invites applications for committee volunteers.

It is time to fill out the committee rosters for the coming year!  There are a number of volunteer opportunities on ETS committees.  ETS committees are involved in many exciting efforts including (but not limited to) working on e-forums, webinars, the BETA award, the Technology Showcase, and the always well attended Hot Topics session. This year we need members to serve on the following committees:

    • Best Emerging Technology Award (BETA) Committee  is charged with identifying and promoting libraries and programs that creatively and effectively integrate emerging technology into library public services.
    • Hot Topics Committee provides a timely forum for discussion of current issues related to the provision of electronic reference services.
    • Managing Emerging Technology Committee fosters discussion, programming, and the development of tools and resources related to the management of emerging technology projects in libraries.
    • Discovery Committee creates, collects, analyzes, evaluates and disseminates information and materials on the development, and implementation of a variety of products, both locally and vendor created; coordinate the concerns of individuals or organizations involved in selecting, acquiring, and evaluating electronic reference products and services; and to gather and share with the library profession information on new technologies and ethical issues relating to such systems and services.
    • Tech Showcase Committee develops, implements, and evaluates a hands-on showcase of emerging technologies and best-in-class technology implementations at ALA Annual each year.
    • User Experience Committee identifies and studies issues relating to user experience (UX) design as it relates to emerging technologies in library public services, and to evaluate and promote integration of UX methods and philosophies in all types of libraries through technological and service standards, guidelines, and "best practices." User Experience employs user research and user-centered design methods to holistically craft the structure, context, modes of interaction, and aesthetic and emotional aspects of an experience in order to facilitate satisfaction and ease of use.

Express your interest online. Whether or not you have served in these in the past, now is the opportunity to try something new! Please fill out the form by April 15, 2020. There are tons of opportunities in each of these  committees to gain skills, networking, and leadership experience.

Please do not hesitate to contact Geoff Morse (ETS Chair) or myself  if you have any questions or feedback. Thank you and I look forward to working with you!

    Best regards,

    Shannon Jones
