Subject: Wednesday discussion with TAG re: TAP & Oversight
Hello Councilors,
The Transforming ALA Governance task force appreciated the conversation with Council earlier this month regarding the future size and compostion of Council and the Executive Board. Likewise, we are looking forward to the discussion this coming Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. CT re: Taking ALA's Pulse and Oversight considerations.
At the March Virtual Council Meeting, Council passed ALA CD#35b , Part C, Revised, which directed TAG to prepare for Council's "consideration, ideas to advance the implementation of the `Taking ALA Pulse' (TAP) concept, as a method of bringing feedback and issues from ALA Members, Units and Affiliates...." While TAG has been considering the TAP concept and ways it could be implemented and useful, we want to hear from you. How can Council communicate better with ALA Membership? How can Council assure they are responsive to issues on the minds of Members?
We will also welcome discussion about how we might evaluate our new governance models. How do we know that we are effective as a body? What might we assess this? What are our short and long term plans for determining if we are successful? I have attached two ideas that TAG has been discussing. One is related to TAP and the other related to the idea of an oversight board, but we would like to hear from you. Please bring your recommendations, ideas, and suggestions.
The meeting will be recorded and as always, if you can't make the meeting, but have ideas to share or questions, please let us know.
Best,
Amy
