Dear AI Interest Group,
On behalf of the leadership team, I'm so pleased to announce our new Incoming Convener: Breanne Kirsch!
Breanne is Associate Librarian and Head of Learning and Engagement at Miami University. She states, "Having participated in this group since its early stages, I have seen firsthand how vital this community is for navigating the rapid evolution of our field. My commitment to AI in librarianship is reflected in my work as the founder and co-coordinator of the Generative AI in Libraries (GAIL) conference. Through that experience, I've learned that our most valuable asset is our collective knowledge. I believe librarians are uniquely positioned to lead AI literacy efforts on campus, and I view AI literacy not as a separate literacy, but as a critical evolution of information literacy."
In this role, Breanne explains, "I aim to foster a culture of practical, peer-to-peer knowledge sharing to help us adapt to both generative and agentic AI" and her goals include "strategic advocacy to empower librarians to act as essential campus partners in AI literacy and ethical technology adoption. By sharing our experiences, we can move from being reactive to being proactive leaders in the technological landscape. I would be honored to serve the ACRL community in this capacity."
A big thanks to Breanne for bringing enthusiasm, experience, and a willingness to serve! She will begin a three-year term on July 1 of this year, first as Incoming Convener, then Convener, and finally Past Convener.
Cheers,
Amanda Makula, current Incoming Convener
