Phil Jones and Jay McAllister of the University of Arkansas are surveying librarians employed at universities and four-year colleges in the United States and Canada on peer recommendations for promotion and/or tenure, with a focus on ballots and voting. The researchers invite those with or without prior participation in these procedures to complete the survey; perspectives from both groups are encouraged.
The researchers feel that an assessment of the role of peers in recommendations for promotion and/or tenure is overdue. These processes are consequential and should be in alignment with higher values of social justice. We would be grateful for your time in order to receive sufficient responses to enable meaningful findings. We hope to submit these findings for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
The survey is anonymous and should take 5–10 minutes. Your participation is voluntary and you may withdraw at any time. The researchers will maintain your confidentiality and follow protocols for research with human subjects.
For those who participate, we request your response by January 31, 2022.
