(via Amelia Aldred--ALA Deputy Director, State and Local Advocacy)

I'm excited to announce a new 2025 legislative resource for chapters. The Office of Public Policy and Advocacy has researched and compiled in-depth briefings for each state, available to chapters. These briefings include information on the freshman state legislators and what their position on libraries may be, and reelected state legislators that were involved in either adverse or library friendly legislation in the 2024 session.

You can access the state briefings in the password-protected folder here: 2025 ALA State Legislatures Research  Please e-mail Amelia Aldred at aaldred@ala.org for the password.

We are adding to the folder on a rolling basis and currently have Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Utah. We'll continue to add to the folder this month and February.

In addition, we have a briefing on the freshman senators and representatives in the US Congress which includes their top policy positions.

We hope that this information will help for relationship development and strategizing. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

We are happy to support ACRL state and regional chapters in their legislative advocacy. Since this is a resource designed for ALA chapter and division chapters, not the general public, I recommend to ACRL members that they not share the access information through channels that are subject to FOIA.
