Scholarly Communication Help Desk: Librarians Helping Librarians Where no question is silly!

Do you have questions about fair use, copyright, open access, the Nelson Memo, or other scholarly communication topics, and don't know who to ask?

Consider submitting your question to the Scholarly Communication Help Desk, launched in 2023 by the EBSS (Education & Behavioral Sciences Section) Scholarly Communication Committee.

Questions are not limited to education and behavioral sciences. Questions about all areas of scholarly communication are encouraged! When you submit a question to the help desk, the committee members, composed of scholarly communication librarians and subject librarians, collaborate on answering your specific question, and include further resources to consult. The Help Desk does not offer legal advice.

View the Scholarly Communication Help Desk's previous Q&A on the committee's LibGuide, including answers to the following:

"I am working with a faculty member who is putting together an OER textbook that is basically a collection of chapters from pre-existing open textbooks. How do I figure out which Creative Commons license should be attached to this new collection?"

Whenever a question comes up, email the Scholarly Communication Help Desk at ALA-ACRL-EBSS-ScholComm@ConnectedCommunity.org and the EBSS Scholarly Communication Committee will respond as soon as they can. If they don't know the answer, they will work to find an expert who can.

Sincerely, the EBSS Scholarly Communication Committee:

Chair: Margie Ruppel, Social Sciences Librarian at the University of Kentucky Libraries

Secretary: Andrea Hebert, Research Impact Librarian at Louisiana State University Libraries

Carin Graves, Librarian for Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, & Human Development, and Family Studies at Michigan State University Libraries

Miranda Phair, Publishing & Open Scholarship Librarian at Towson University Libraries

Brian Quinn, Librarian for Research, Instruction, and Outreach at Texas Tech University Libraries
