Greetings, ACRL AI DG folks!  Thank you to everyone who took a moment to vote for our May DG meetup discussion topic (from among the AI-focused publications in this year's ACRL Conference Proceedings) - - we've had a chance to tally up the votes from the DG board post and votes that came in via direct message, and the winner is (drumroll....):

Reframing Information Seeking in the Age of Generative AI: A Critical and Humanistic Approach, by Joseph Kevin Sebastian!

If you're planning to join our May DG Meetup (May 27, 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM (ET)), set aside some time between now and then to read through Kevin's article.  We'll update this thread a little bit closer to the 27th with some discussion prompts as well, so that you can consider them in advance of the meetup.

• Welcome, Introductions (Heather - 5min)

• Folks invited to share news items of interest

• Guided discussion (Heather, Ginny - 30min) on Reframing Information-Seeking in the Age of Generative AI: A Critical and Humanistic Approach, Joseph Kevin Sebastian

• What counts as knowledge production, and who counts as a knowledge producer, in the age of GenAI?  What are the implications for academic integrity, authorship, and scholarly practice in considering generative AI to be a "co-author" or "collaborator"?

• How might libraries grow information literacy instruction to accommodate a shift from retrieval-based models (search engines) to dialogue-based discovery with generative AI tools?

• What risks do traditional models of information-seeking pose for marginalized communities in AI-mediated research environments?  Are these risks mitigated or worsened by the introduction of GenAI to information seeking?

• What does "credibility" mean when using AI-generated content, especially when there's no clear author or source to evaluate?  How can librarians and libraries help students to navigate these new grey areas?

• What new ethical principles might be needed, to reframe information-seeking in an age of GenAI?
