All:
In the spirit of sparking more discussion and exchange of ideas on the Chapters Council ALA Connect space, I would like to encourage everyone to share any library-related legislation in your own state that might be of interest to your fellow Chapters Council members. We are all aware of the political issues facing libraries these days, from book banning to reduced funding. Different states are taking various legislative approaches to meeting these challenges, however.
You may have heard about Illinois House Bill 2789, which would effectively bar libraries in Illinois from receiving state funding if they engage in book-banning practices. More background is available here, and you may track the legislation's progress here.
If there is library-related legislation in your own state that has drawn regional or national attention, please post about it here. Also, if your statewide or regional ACRL association has taken a proactive role in supporting or opposing legislation, and you think it would be helpful for other chapters to learn about the strategies you have found particularly effective or unuseful, please let us know.
Thank you very much.
