Successfully Navigating IRB Processes as a Community College Librarian

Are you a community college librarian with an interest in conducting research, but with questions about how to survive "the IRB process"? These procedures, set up to protect human research subjects and ensure compliance with various regulations and guidelines, are quite complicated and vary significantly from institution to institution. Many research universities have well-developed orientation programs to help researchers through the process, but this training may be limited or nonexistent in community colleges, where research is not always a requirement or expectation for librarians or faculty.

This virtual panel will feature community college librarians from various institutions, discussing their experiences with this process and the challenges they faced along the way. If you have questions or tales to tell from your own IRB attempts, please bring them! Participants will walk away with an understanding of common features of institutional IRB requirements, familiarity with some of the campus stakeholders who might be key players, and knowledge of a few strategies that could be adapted and employed in different contexts.
