ACRL ANSS ACJS Liaison 2025-2028

The ACRL Anthropology and Sociology Section (ANSS) is currently seeking applications to serve a three-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2028) as the ACRL Liaison to the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS). Liaisons are responsible for outreach, education, and communication between ACJS and ACRL to form strong relationships and advance the interests of ACRL and ANSS.

"The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) is an international association established in 1963 to foster professional and scholarly activities in the field of criminal justice. ACJS promotes criminal justice education, research, and policy analysis within the discipline of criminal justice for both educators and practitioners. Providing a forum for disseminating ideas related to issues in research, policy, education, and practice within the field, ACJS attributes its success in creating this dynamic professional association to the composition of its membership."

Liaison responsibilities and expectations:
● Join and be actively involved in ACJS. Participate in a subject section of ACJS
● Work to increase collaboration between ACRL ANSS and ACJS by sharing information with members of both organizations via email (minimum) and other impactful communication venues such as presentations at ACJS and ACRL conference on topics of interest to both groups
● Keep abreast of scholarly interests and other matters that might be pertinent to ACRL/ANSS and academic librarianship
● Provide annual report on ACJS's meeting and your activities to the ACRL Board, ANSS Chair/Executive Committee, and ANSS Liaison Committee
● Communicate with the ANSS membership via reports in Currents, virtual meetings, blogs etc. Past reports available at https://acrl.ala.org/anss/index.php/publications/currents/.
● Attend ACJS (usually in March or April) each year of the three-year term. For conferences with both virtual and in-person options, attendance should be in-person for at least one year of the three.
● Attend in-person or virtual meetings of the ANSS Liaison Committee, ANSS Executive Committee, and the ACRL Liaisons Assembly Committee
● The selected candidate may be able to supplement your institutional funding with ACRL funding. Funding deadlines are typically in the fall. Details are available at https://www.ala.org/acrl/issues/councilofliaisons/fundingguidelines and from ACRL. Partial funding may be available from ACRL ANSS.

Qualifications
Required:
● Current membership in ANSS, ACRL, and ACJS (ACJS may be joined upon appointment)
● Experience collaborating with criminal justice/criminology faculty and providing assistance to criminal justice/criminology students
● Interest in coordinating activities to increase interaction between ACJS and ACRL, ability to articulate ideas for collaboration and discuss options for carrying them out.
● Experience with or interest in outreach and education efforts
● Excellent leadership abilities and communication skills
Desired:
● Record of serving ANSS and/or ACRL on committees, task forces, etc.
● Participation in one or more sections of ACJS
● Advanced degree or graduate coursework in criminal justice/criminology or related areas

Selection Process Timeline
● April 8: Deadline for applications
● April 8 – April 15: ANSS Liaison Committee reviews submitted applications and recommends a liaison candidate to the ANSS Executive Board
● April 15 – April 19: ANSS Executive Board reviews recommendation sand contacts the successful candidate to confirm they are still able to serve
● April 22 – April 26: ANSS Executive board officially appoints successful candidate
● April 26 - May 10: ANSS Liaison Committee chair(s) contacts successful and unsuccessful candidates
● Selected candidate is invited to attend the in-person or virtual meetings of the ANSS Liaison committee and the ANSS Executive Committee
