Nancy L. Zingrone got her PhD in psychology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She is a research psychologist who combines her thirty-year fascination with exceptional experiences with her passion for teaching. Dr. Zingrone is a part-time Professor of Psychology in the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Northcentral University, an eager member of Dr. Nellie Deustch’s various teaching and learning networks, a Moodle and WizIQ facilitator, a community land manager and the curator of The AZIRE Library and Learning Center, both in the Chilbo Community in Second Life. Zingrone blogs on Thinking about Learning and uploads tutorials and other goodies to her YouTube channel, Teaching and Learning Online. Her contributions to psychology with her colleague and husband, Dr. Carlos S. Alvarado, have appeared in such journals as Imagination, Cognition and Personality, and History of Psychiatry. She’s also published on her experiences in Second Life in the June 2013 issue, and on the SLMOOC series with colleagues Dr. Nellie Deutsch and Dr. Doris Molero in the June 2016 issue of Virtual Education Journal.
Program Description: Supporting a Course with a Virtual World Library will cover the development of The Alvarado Zingrone Institute for Research and Education's virtual library in Second Life (also known as The AZIRE Library) and the design and teaching of the Parapsychology Research and Education massively open online course (also known as the ParaMOOC series). The AZIRE Library serves as a bridge between Second Life and the mostly unknown marginal discipline that engages in the scholarly and scientific study of seemingly psychic experiences, providing access to the websites of the researchers, courses, and resources such as books and articles in English and Spanish. The Library also supports the Second Life discussion forum for the ParaMOOC, and provides a "home" in Second Life for ParaMOOC series and other members of the Friends of The AZIRE group.
