Charge: The Virtual Worlds Interest Group provides an opportunity for academic librarians with virtual environment interests and responsibilities to have a place in ACRL to network, share information, ask questions, and work on special projects, promote accessibility and provide programs relevant to academic libraries. The VW Interest Group also works to promote the various uses of virtual reality in all formats (desktop, mobile and headset) to potential and current academic librarians and to improve information literacy (metaliteracy) specifically in virtual spaces. The ACRL VWIG sponsors events, programs and meetings held mainly within the virtual world of Second Life and explores other developing Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality platforms in the evolving metaverse.

    ALA Midwinter Conference Dallas meeting will be Sunday, January 22, 4:00pm in the Dallas Convention Center, room D225.

     Discussion convener in Dallas will be Valerie Hill (Valibrarian Gregg in SL), incoming group convener for the ACRL Virtual Worlds Interest Group.  (Thank you Val!)

     Both groups will go over current projects and future plans.  These groups are open to anyone interested in virtual worlds.  We hold meetings, programs and events in the Second Life virtual world. 

     We will meet virtually in Second Life simultaneously with the Dallas meeting for folks who can't make it to Dallas.  Our meeting place will be the Community Virtual Library (CVL) auditorium on Info Island.  In Second Life the meeting time is 2pm!  

     Despite our best efforts, sometimes technology doesn't cooperate for an effective joint rl and sl meetup, but we'll try it and hope the connections work for us.
