    Circulation Services Librarian – Iowa State University:

    The Iowa State University Library is seeking applications for a service-focused, forward-thinking, curious, and collaborative Circulation Services Librarian (Librarian II) to lead the Circulation units (day and evening) at Parks Library, Design Reading Room and Veterinary Medicine Library, as well as the Course Reserve unit. The Iowa State University Library advances the university's commitment to academic excellence and the land-grant mission.

    Reporting to the Access Services Department Head, the Circulation Services Librarian will provide direction and vision for the unit, including identifying and incorporating circulation best practices. Responsibilities include:

    • Supervision of a team consisting of 6.5 FTE daytime and evening Circulation staff, 3.0 FTE Course Reserves staff, and 20+ students at the University Libraries. Staff responsibilities include opening and closing of Parks Library and branch libraries.
    • Serve as patron safety coordinator, including updating and developing safety policies
    • Patron fine negotiation and account management.
    • Working with other library departments to provide guidance on questions related to circulation, course reserves, and patron safety policy questions.
    • Regularly reviewing policies, priorities, procedures, workflows, work assignments, and unit goals, modifying as necessary for efficiency, optimization of resources, and service to the ISU community's needs. 
    • A Librarian II will be able to demonstrate, through evidence, increasing skills and leadership potential, and establish area(s) of research interest and/or exhibit leadership in external professional activities.

    The successful candidate will have a customer-service focus, be skilled in organization and time management, and possess the ability to interact effectively with library staff and the university community, working independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing team-based environment. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess adaptability and decision-making skills; have the ability to formulate and implement innovative approaches and solutions to problems; communicate complex ideas to a wide range of audiences; effectively communicate and collaborate; and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, social justice, public service and the land-grant mission.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent, or an advanced degree supporting a specialized key program function.
    • Experience supervising a diverse team
    • One year of experience working in library circulation services
    • Experience with an integrated library software system, preferably Ex Libris Alma
    • Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service to a diverse customer population
    • Experience identifying and implementing an innovative service.
    • Ability and interest to engage in and contribute to the library's ongoing DEI efforts.
