Hello! We're excited to announce a great opportunity to lead our Special Collections Research Center at NC State! Additional details are below. If you have any questions, nominations/recommendations, please feel free to reach out. Feel free to also pass this along to anyone who might be interested. Thank you!

The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Head, Special Collections Research Center (SCRC). The SCRC, with 9 librarians and 3 support staff, collects, describes, preserves, and provides access to unique, rare, and historical information in support of teaching, learning, and research. The center applies innovative digital technologies to transform archival services and collections for electronic access and use, engages users with rare and unique materials, and provides user-focused services including both undergraduate and graduate instruction and guided project work and internships.

The Department Head, Special Collections Research Center leads a dynamic special collections and archives program in support of teaching, learning, and research at the university. The incumbent provides strategic and effective management of collections, policy, budget, and personnel in a customer-oriented, technologically sophisticated environment. In this highly visible position, the incumbent works closely with faculty, researchers, and administrators; facilitates research, teaching, and community engagement with primary source material; and cultivates donors and supporters. They lead the center's efforts to integrate the special collections program into the collections, spaces, services, outreach programming, and digital initiatives of the NC State University Libraries. The position collaborates with colleagues from across the Libraries to support a growing digital collections program, including collecting and managing born-digital materials. The incumbent oversees an active portfolio of processing and digitization grants. This position participates in library planning and serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. Librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Reports to the Associate Director for Collections & Research Services.

Minimum salary: $105,000 annually. Review of applications is underway; position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. The Libraries will be flexible during this time and will conduct most or all of this search remotely.
