Charge: To support current and former residents to network, share their expertise, gain national leadership and service experience, and prepare for transitioning to post-residency positions through: a) advancing resident education and residents’ professional success through inter-collegiate collaboration; b) creating programming and resources that center residents; c) advocating for current residents through a liaison relationship with the ACRL Diversity Alliance; d) providing opportunities to engage in research on residencies; and e) centralizing information regarding program availability.

    The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Head, Access Services in the Access Services department. Situated in the Student Success division, the department (4 librarians, 22 support staff, and student assistants) connects users with experts, collections, technology, and spaces. The department supports the discovery and delivery of resources, maintains the print collection in two main library locations, manages a textbook and course reserves scanning and lending service, and oversees a technology lending service. Its resource sharing unit is well recognized for prompt and user-focused services, fulfilling numerous requests each year and contributing to the development of new and open systems such as Project ReShare. Access Services manages Ask Us, the integrated service point, providing answers in person and through chat, lending books and a wide variety of technology, and operating the Hill and Hunt Libraries, keeping them open, fun, and safe.


    Responsibilities

    The Associate Head, Access Services shares management responsibility for the department, supervising a portfolio that includes approximately 15 staff members.  This position helps guide and coordinate operations and services for two main libraries. They play a key role in setting departmental goals and objectives; fostering an inclusive, collaborative, motivating, and creative work environment; and maintaining high customer service standards. They provide support and guidance to service managers and the student supervisory team in hiring, scheduling, and managing the performance of student staff. They analyze and act on library usage trends, design workflows, and help to maintain internal controls and documentation for systems such as SirsiDynix Symphony, Reserves Direct, and ILLiad. The position represents the department in the absence of the head in both internal and external venues. The Associate Head works with branch library directors, Information Technology, Building Services, and other managers and staff to advance and coordinate services and to ensure secure and effective operations in two 24-hour facilities. They work with the User Experience department to ensure that user interfaces and online tools are accessible, usable, and effective. They participate in library planning and serve on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. Librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.

    Minimum salary: $84,000 annually. Review of applications is underway; position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. The Libraries will be flexible during this time and will conduct most or all of this search remotely.
