The Ida Jane Dacus Library seeks a creative and advocacy-oriented Metadata and Discovery Librarian who leverages current and emerging standards to surface the richness of the Library's and Archives' collections and support the teaching and scholarship of the Winthrop community. Reporting to the Head of Content Services, the Metadata and Discovery Librarian works collaboratively with library and archives employees to provide direction and leadership for metadata creation throughout the library's collections. The successful candidate implements a guiding leadership ethos, applies iterative approaches to problem solving, and considers the Association of College & Research Libraries' Core Organizational Values – and Winthrop University's values – of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in their daily and long-term work.
The Metadata and Discovery Librarian supervises two staff positions and, as necessary, student workers. This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position, and rank will be assigned at the assistant or associate level, commensurate with experience.
Essential duties include:
Serve as the principal cataloger, performing original and complex copy cataloging for library and archival resources in all formats.
Manage, train, and direct staff in the creation of metadata and cataloging in all formats.
Manage and direct authority work for library collections using NACO and local standards.
Partner with Archives personnel to evaluate and refine the workflows for metadata creation and maintenance.
Partner with the Digital Services and Systems Librarian in maintaining the integrity of the university's institutional repository.
Identifies, prioritizes, and implements metadata projects.
Monitors and maintains integrity of information discovery within the shared library services platform.
Leads the development and documentation of local cataloging and metadata policies, procedures, and best practices.
Maintain currency in cataloging and metadata tools, standards, and trends.
Gather, analyze, and report metadata and cataloging statistics.
Participate in the library's collection development processes and research and information programs and services.
Participate in academic responsibility, student intellectual development, scholarly activity, and professional stewardship activities as outlined for promotion and tenure.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary: Begins at $56,000, commensurate with qualifications.
Work Environment: This position requires daily contact with students and campus employees. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the ability and is encouraged to work with the surrounding community and with other universities, national, and international stakeholders and partners.
