Join the RUSA History Section for a discussion of library spaces and historical research.

Historical research can put unique demands on library spaces. History researchers may require printed books, dedicated rooms or study tables, or atypical materials such as government documents, bound periodicals, microfilm/fiche and readers, as well as special collections and institutional archives. With increasing demands on libraries to serve other needs with library spaces, how do we manage? What creative solutions have you used at your libraries? What impact does moving resources to off-site or remote locations have on researchers? And, are there new types of spaces that are of particular benefit for history researchers? Join other librarians to discuss best practices for preserving and providing access to these necessary resources and creating library spaces that support historical research.

In this session, we will discuss the challenges faced by different types of libraries in preserving or maintaining space for these resources. We will also share strategies for responding to these needs.

Please register to join us for this discussion! Registration is open to anyone. Membership in ALA, RUSA and the History Section are not required to participate in this discussion.
