Hello!
I'm writing with information on the 2021-2022 activities of the African American Subject Funnel. As many of you know, the Funnel is a subgroup of AAS-LIG that creates and updates Library of Congress subject headings related to African American culture and history.
2021-2022 has been a productive year for the Funnel! The group filled in major gaps in LCSH on topics such as the Middle Passage, Transatlantic slave trade, environmental racism, and the Great Migration. See below for a full report on yearly activities and a copy of the Funnel's report at the AAS-LIG annual meeting from last week.
Interested in joining? Members of AAS-LIG are encouraged to attend monthly Funnel meetings. No prior experience with cataloging is required, and students and librarians at all stages of their career with an interest in African American history and culture are very welcome!
For an overview of the funnel's mission see the AAS-LIG Libguide.
Our next meeting will take place on Friday, August 26th at 2 pm EST.
You're also invited to attend an Introductory Training Session on Wednesday, August 24th at 11 AM EST. You do not have to be an official member of the Funnel to attend! Here is information on how to join below.
