Dear colleagues,
As part of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL)'s Leadership and Career Development Program, we are conducting research into how acquisition practices for Distinctive Collections support (or not) EDI efforts. We are seeking participants who are:
- information professionals at an ARL member institution (https://www.arl.org/list-of-arl-members/)
- at least 18 years of age
- currently working in any of the following areas: Acquisitions, Archives, Area/Global/International/Subject Liaison, Collection Development, and Special Collections
If you meet all of the criteria above, please consider participating in this research project: Interrogating Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Social Justice (IDEAS) practices in Acquisitions Methods for Distinctive Collections.
The aim of this survey is to gather acquisitions practices that have been in place since 2009 across ARL institutions and investigate how these practices impact the building of diverse collections. Although participation may not benefit you directly, we believe that the information obtained from this study will contribute to critical conversations about building diverse collections and counter-narratives in libraries and archives. The survey is expected to take approximately 20 minutes to complete and will remain open from July 7, 2021 to August 6, 2021. The survey was designed to gather insights from different perspectives, and thus we are seeking perspectives from Acquisitions, Archives, Area/Global/International/Subject Liaison, Collection Development, and Special Collections practitioners at your institution and welcome multiple responses from the same institutions from different individuals. See attached consent form for more details and contact information for the Human Research Protection Office at the University of Kansas.
