Scot Danforth tells the story of what Ed Robert's suicide survival, his decision to live well, to take full title of his body, and shape his future was the foundation for the notion of independent living as well as the beginning of a lifelong, intensive personal practice of self-creation. He crafted a dynamic, outrageous, impactful, disabled man in a mid-century America that hadn't even begun to imagine people with disabilities living active, integrated lives. Ed's decision launched the influential idea we now know as independent living, the lifechanging concept that powered the disability rights movement.
About the Speaker
Scot Danforth is a Professor and the Assistant Dean of Research at Chapman University's Attallah College of Educational Studies. A widely published disability studies scholar his work examines political and ethical issues to foster inclusive education. Cofounder of the Disability Studies in Education Special Interest Group within the American Education Research Association and past coeditor of Disability Studies Quarterly

Neurodiversity is an integral part of diversity in university settings, and by embracing neurodiversity, we promote an inclusive and empathetic space for everyone. In this workshop-style presentation, you will understand complex issues that influence the academic and social well-being of neurodivergent students. Based on my own research and clinical experiences, I will share strategies for increased cross-neurotype understanding and communication, and you can take away specific strategies on how you can be an ally for your neurodivergent peer or student within the university setting.
About the Speaker
Assistant Professor at Bowling Green State University's College of Health and Human Services is an experienced Speech Language Pathologist Skilled in working with children and adults on the autism spectrum. Her research on focuses on applying strengths-based approaches from a neurodiversity perspective.

I'll take all night if I have to!" said 8-year-old Jennifer Keelan-Chaffins. The second-grader wasn't talking about working on a lengthy homework assignment or completing another video game level. No, she was telling the crowd of reporters that she would not give up as she climbed to the top of the Capitol steps in what became known as the Capital Crawl to demand passage of the ADA. Congress and the country listened to a student that day.
The Ethel Louise Armstrong Student Poster Competition and reception is held annually to encourage students to network with the community, professionals, and scholars who share their interests in disability. This opportunity is made possible through the generosity of the ELA Foundation and its founder, Margaret Stanton. The event honors Margaret's grandmother, Ethel Louise Armstrong, who encouraged Margaret to reject stereotypes, embrace self-determination, and excel in college despite the barriers of a pre-504/ADA world faced by disabled women. Margaret founded the ELA Foundation to "change the face of disability on the planet". The student posters highlight ongoing change and future challenges.
The Art & Performance poster award is dedicated to honor the late Helyn Marshall who left our community in form but not in spirit this past September. Helyn was the Wexner Center for the Arts' first Accessibility Manager and lead Digital Accessibility Coordinator. She believed that the arts are not a luxury, but a necessity and a universal human right.
Posters will be presented at the 24th Annual Multiple Perspectives on Access, Inclusion & Disability. The Ohio State University – Columbus Campus
