Centro, in association with the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, is the largest university-based research institute, library, and archive dedicated to the Puerto Rican experience in the United States.

Join Centro's Project Archivist, Herbert Duran, for a virtual tour and presentation of Centro's archive, focusing on Puerto Rican migration to Hawai'i. Spurred by depressed economic conditions and a hurricane that devastated the island in 1899, between 1900 and 1902 over 5,000 Puerto Ricans left their home island and traveled to the islands of Hawai'i (Maui, O'ahu, and Hawai'i) to work on the sugar plantations. Herbert plans to share some pictures of Centro's physical archive, and images from the digital collection, in his presentation.

This virtual event is free and open to the public. A Zoom link will be shared with all registrants 24 hours prior to the event.
