    The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is seeking applications for the 2022–2023 Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP). The ARL LCDP is a yearlong fellowship that aims to prepare mid-career librarians from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups to take on leadership roles in their careers and in the profession at large.
    The ARL LCDP contributes to addressing the need for research libraries and archives to develop a more diverse professional workforce that can contribute to institutions' successes in serving the research, teaching, and learning of increasingly diverse scholarly and learning communities. This is accomplished, in part, by providing LCDP fellows with meaningful exposure to the major strategic issues that are shaping the future of research libraries and archives.

    Program Components

    The ARL LCDP engages fellows in six major experiences over a one-year period (spring 2022–spring 2023):
    • A two-day orientation in March 2022 (virtual)
    • Two multi-day institutes at host institutions (virtual or in person; details TBD)
    • Online discussions and webinars
    • A career-coaching relationship with an ARL library director or senior staff member and a personalized visit to the career coach's institution (pending in-person travel approval)
    • Opportunities for training on identifying, developing, and conducting a capstone project during the fellowship
    • A closing ceremony held during the ARL Spring Association Meeting, May 2–4, 2023

    Eligibility

    The eligibility requirements for LCDP fellows are as follows:
    • Identify as being from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, based on the categories outlined by the US Census Bureau or Statistics Canada as well as First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people classifications
    • Be a citizen or resident of the United States or Canada
    • Be employed as a library, archive, or information professional in any setting
    • Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing leadership roles within an institutional setting or within the profession

    More Information and Application

    Tuition for the yearlong fellowship is $5,000 for professionals employed in ARL member libraries, $6,000 for all others.
    For additional information about the program and to apply, visit the LCDP webpages. The completed online application form and attachments as well as both letters should be submitted to ARL by 11:59 p.m. eastern standard time (EST) on Friday, December 10, 2021.
