    Dear APALA,

    We would like to inform your library and information science students about a scholarship opportunity sponsored by Atla. Atla is a religiously inclusive professional organization that looks to foster the study of theology and religion by enhancing the development of theological and religious studies libraries and librarianship.     Atla is excited to support diversity in librarianship with the following scholarship:
    The Atla Diversity Scholarship
    We are looking for applicants with an open willingness to explore the possibility of a vocation in library information science and religious studies and/or theology.
    Atla will provide one scholarship in the amount of $4,000 USD to a student who belongs to an underrepresented population and who is enrolled in an ALA-accredited master's program in library and information science.
    The scholarship recipient also will be required to author and submit a brief newsletter article on a diversity topic of interest to them that relates to the study and/or profession of librarianship. The scholarship also includes the option of a travel grant ($750 USD) to attend and participate in the following year's Atla Annual. The awardee can choose to participate in Atla Annual by presenting or creating a poster with the support of the members of the sponsoring Atla Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion if desired.
    Award
    • $4,000 USD
    • (optional) $750 USD travel grant to attend the 2023 Atla Annual in Fort Worth, TX
    Eligibility
    • Applicant must be from an underrepresented population (race, sexual orientation, gender expression, expression of religious tradition, disabilities (physical or learning)).
    • Applicant must be an Atla individual or student member in good standing at the time of acceptance.
    • Applicant must enroll and complete at least 6 credit hours in an ALA-accredited master's program in library and information science in North America in the 12 months following notification.

    Applications must be received by June 1, 2022. The awardee will be notified by August 1, 2022. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the program in which the recipient is enrolled.
